Polishing with the POLY PTX

Multifunction Pipe Grinder/Sander/Polisher

Achieving a superior surface finish on tubes is crucial across various industries. This is not only to achieve an aesthetic finish but increases the longevity of the product. However, it is a costly process to procur specific machines for specific applications. The POLY PTX Burnishing machine is unique in that it can grind, sand and polish flat surfaces as well as pipes.

To convert the POLY PTX machine from a linear burnishing machine into a Pipe machine the only attachments required are the POLY PTX Grinding belt roller and the POLY PTX Spacer ring set. The spacers are required as the grinding belt roller is 70mm wide and therefore needs to be held in place on the 100mm shaft. The belts used with this machine are 30 x 600mm and 30 x 660mm (T-Lock) belts.

Mirror Finish on Pipe with POLY PTX

As stated earlier the POLY PTX Linear Burnishing machine can be used on pipes with both a closed and open construction. For an industrial number 4 finish. To finish an open construction workpiece is the easiest, if scratches are present use the POLY PTX Corundum grinding belts to remove scratches, then the POLY PTX SC Fleece Belt T-Lock to reintroduce a scratch pattern. As for closed construction pieces, the corundum grinding belts will need to be cut and taped.

For mirror finishing a high grit matte finish needs to be reached before polishing. The most efficient way to achieve this is by using Trizact belts. These belts have a unique pyramid shaped grain structure that have a very high removal rate. Generally, before moving onto polishing with the BRIGHTEX system you would need at least a 600 grit finish. Like the Corundum grinding belts if the workpiece is a closed construction piece these belts would also need to be cut and taped. The polish is then applied using the superpolish T-lock belts, using BRIGHTEX Berry as the step 1 and BRIGHTEX Sun as step 2.

How to Tape Abrasive belts?

For closed construction pipes the POLY PTX trizact and grinding belts need to be cut and re-attached using Eisenblaetter’s special adhesive tape. To do this simply tape 370 degrees around the inside of the belt once it is in position. The tape is reinforced to withstand the pressures of sanding and grinding.
