New POLY PTX Professional guide

Creating an easy Industrial Finish

Eisenblaetter has released a brand new POLY PTX Professional guide which helps users know which abrasive to use for the right application. But not just that it also shows techniques and helpful tricks on how to get the best out of your POLY PTX machine. If you would like to read the full professional guide, please click on the picture above.

In this blog we will be focussing on the iconic industrial no. 4 finish.

When industrial finish sheet is bought it is by default ground to grit 240. Even so many precautions are taken to avoid scratching the workpiece, it needs to be welded, cut, ground and joined into the final product. We make it easy to bring the initial no.4 finish back.

It is of course very important to prepare the surface correctly before putting in that final industrial finish and the first step is to clean the surface. Sometimes, grit, grease or oil can be present on the workpiece and that can either scratch the workpiece or introduce contaminants. We would recommend using a product such as BRILLIANCE CLEAN and the BRIGHTEX Microfibre cloth to clean the workpiece before beginning.

Using the oscillation technique to create a linear finish

Oscillation Technique

In order to achieve a perfect industrial finish no.4 with fleece wheels from Eisenblaetter in Germany, the oscillation technique is used. This is where the user uses short forward and backward motions while moving laterally at the same time. This means that each point on the workpiece is being ground for the same length of time.

For a demonstration please find the QR code on the image above.

Forget straight grinders and grit mops this approach will save time, money and give you a better finish.

Using the zirconium sleeves to remove scratches

What if I have deep scratches in stainless steel?

If deep scratches are present, the POLY PTX fleece wheel alone will not be able to buff them out. This is where a little bit of pre-work is required. As seen in the image above the zirconium sleeve and the rubber expansion roller are ideal to smooth the surface of welds or scratches. The sleeves come in grit 40, 60, 80 or 120 depending on the severity of work that needs to be done.

Once the workpiece has been ground down we would recommend using a SC fleece sleeve to smooth and blend the workpiece before using the fleece wheel to achieve the industrial finish.

Which machine do I need to achieve an easy industrial finish?

The POLY PTX is the original burnishing machine and still is the best on the market.

A quick tip to change sleeves on the POLY PTX expansion roller. Put the grinding belt roller underneath the expansion roller and it is much easier to change the sleeves.
